OUR SMALL GROUP TUTORING
OUR COLLEGE ESSAY TUTORING
OUR SPECIAL COURSES TUTORING
We tutor children ages 5 through 18.
Our tutors work with individual students from kindergarten through senior year of high school.
We have small group tutoring for children age 7 and up.
Usually between an hour and an hour and a half.
Younger children may prefer half-hour sessions.
Teens with several concurrent assignments may prefer two-hour sessions.
Once or twice a week.
Each family decides with their tutor the frequency of their child’s tutoring sessions.
Small group tutoring sessions last between one and two hours, depending on the age of the participants and the size of the group. Groups generally meet weekly.
Families and tutors decide the duration of tutoring.
With Academic Support, tutors have the most impact on a child’s success in reading and writing across the curriculum when they meet throughout as much of the school year as possible.
In Enrichment, tutoring can cover the entire school year or a shorter time period — for example, a semester, a quarter or a month — depending on the scope of the project.
Small groups — writing workshops and book clubs — usually meet once a week for eight weeks during the school year. During the summer the summer, when our small groups become online camps, they can be as short or as long as families desire.
With great attention to the particulars of your child.
When you contact us, we’ll set up a call to talk with you about your child’s strengths and challenges in reading and writing, and about their academic ambitions.
We’ll discuss whether you are interested in Academic Support Tutoring, Enrichment Tutoring, or both. Or whether you are interested in Small Groups, College Essays, or one of our Special Courses. We’ll also ask about your child’s temperament and interests.
Based on that information, we carefully match your child to a tutor who has expertise in the areas your child needs or wants to work on, and who is someone we think your child will click with. We do not charge for this initial conversation.
By asking questions and by listening.
At the outset, our tutor gets to know your child as a person – and as a reader and writer – through informal conversation, wise interaction and a variety of assessment tools. These may include asking children about their experiences and sharing some of their own; reading with them; talking about books; and examining pieces of their writing.
Our Master Tutors have become famous in the field in part because of their incredible ability to bond with any child; to meet them where they are; and to energize them to journey forward into new worlds of reading and writing.
Our Master Tutors have invented teaching techniques now used by educators across the globe. But the starting point for those methods, the foundation of all their smart inventions, is and has always been creating a strong relationship between teacher and student, one of mutual affection and respect, as well as shared purpose.
Through regular reports and frequent communication.
After every session, tutors send parents an email report on how well-prepared their child was; what material, concepts and assignments they covered in the session; and whether their child absorbed the material with ease or encountered some difficulties.
The email details the work their child has agreed do before the next tutoring session, and confirms its date and time.
Parents can correspond through emails or phone calls with their child’s tutor at any time to ask questions, express concerns or bring the tutor up to date on new developments.
Our hourly rate for Master Tutors ranges from $250 – $350.
Our hourly rate for Tutors ranges from $150 – $250.
Our hourly rate for small group writing workshops and book clubs vary with the number of participants and the duration of the course. Group discounts may be available.
At the end of every month, families receive an invoice via email.
You can pay by credit card or PayPal, and we can set up automatic payment. We ask that you pay within seven days of receiving an invoice. Invoices that are paid after seven days will be subject to a 5% late fee.
We do not require pre-payment for individual tutoring sessions. We are confident that once your child begins to work with one of our tutors, you’ll want the tutoring relationship to continue.
Because for small groups our tutors develop a custom course trajectory that has a beginning, a middle and an end, and because participation is integral to the group experience, we do require pre-payment for those courses.
